"Time Travelling through the Pine Rivers Shire"

A SOSE module focused on learning outcomes for Level 3 students has been developed. This module has 14 activities to do in the classroom and one consisting of the museum visit. Please use the link on the right to download an introduction to this module.

Museum Excursions

School activities at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum

Discovery and Journey Session

This is a whole day excursion, starting at 9:30am and finishing no later than 2:30pm, depending on the number of activities chosen. Students are divided into groups and rotate between a number of different activities on offer, with each activity lasting 40 mins.

There are five activities to choose from.

1. The track winds on & Museum TourWatch the 15 minute object theatre, guided tour of museum's permanent display. Includes discovery of our heritage objects through hands on experience.
2. Old SchoolSit in a classroom of yesteryear, learn about teachers and students in the previous century, write on slates and learn about nib pens.
3. Butter makingMake butter and taste a sample. Learn about the development of the dairy industry over time in the local area.
4. Discover Old Petrie TownTake a journey through the streets of old Petrie Town and learn about the different buildings and their history. Gain insight into how people used to live, what jobs they did and what their daily life was like.
5. Rainforest WalkJourney through the rainforest, searching the plants and animals found within it. Learn about specific insects and trees and hear how the Aborigines used these resources.

  • Group Size: Maximum 75 students, larger groups are able to divide their visit over two days.
  • Cost: $3 per student
