This five room former station Mistress's residence houses the collections of the Boyne Valley Historical Society. These collections focus on the timber, gold mining and railway history which was so important to the development of the region. Two rooms of the cottage are reconstructed as a 1930s kitchen and bedroom. The rest of the cottage features display cases, photographs and wall displays on the themes of gold mining, timber and transport.

The collection is housed in the National Bank building, built at Barcaldine in 1906. Brennan and Geraghty's Store Museum was originally an operating grocery store which opened in 1871 and traded in two generations of the same family for 101 years. The store was closed in 1972 by the founder's youngest son George. George was then aged 88 years old, he closed the store intact with unsold stock of soaps from the 1920s and curry powder from the 1890s. He also left behind the trading records, packagings and advertising material. The National Trust of Queensland purchased the store and associated family houses in 1975. The only surviving tent house in Mt Isa. The house was built in 1937 as one of many workers houses built by Mt Isa Mines to a standard pattern. The Museum consists of two large corrugated iron sheds. Displayed in these we have heavy agricultural machinery, farming equipment and other large and smaller items relating to a dairying district. Despite this the museum is not crowded. Also displayed, in glass cabinets we have crockery, glassware, bric-a-brac, sewing articles and three rooms depicting the 1930's - 1940's style of living. We are a small group attempting to preserve the original site of white settlement in the area and the surrounding history. In addition, we are promoting local cultural activities on the site. Our most famous building is made from local stone and is possibly the first building built to metric dimensions in Australia.

The Killarney and District Historical Society Inc., has been in operation for about 5 years, it has a small membership of about 30. The Society's rooms are called the Heritage Centre, and consist of the two rooms and a strong room that were the business area of a bank built in 1913. The aim of the Society is to stimulate awareness and understanding of the district's past. To met this aim, the society has published several smaller books on local history, and it maintains a collection of items significant to the area. Cardwell's Old Telegraph Station and Post Office was built in 1870 and is probably the oldest building in North Queensland. It survived from the earliest days of Cardwell's history as Cardwell was the first settlement north of Bowen on the coast. Fort Glanville is the most complete example of a 19th century coastal artillery fort in Australia, retaining its original guns and comprising gun emplacements, magazines, guard room, barracks, gunners mess, officer's quarters and more.
