Derwent Valley Railway Preservation Society

The Society is devoted to re-opening the scenic and historic Derwent Valley railway for steam and diesel. It provides diesel-electric hauled day excursions to National Park as well as occasional trips to other destinations on the Tasmanian railway network.

Tasmanian Herbarium

The Tasmanian Herbarium is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of the botanical collections of Tasmania. These currently number c. 370,000 specimens and represent the most comprehensive scientific record of the Tasmanian flora in the world.

Devonport Gallery and Arts Centre

This regional public art museum is housed in a converted historic church in the heart of Devonport. It has a predominantly 20th century collection of fine and decorative art and craft, with an emphasis on work by Tasmanian artists and crafts people.

Moonah Arts Centre

Operated by the Glenorchy City Council, the Centre provides a large exhibition space. It also offers workshop facilities for community groups and artists.

Don River Railway

A railway museum with working and static exhibits. Has several kilometres of track along the Don River and operates daily passenger trains powered by steam locomotives from the Museum to the Don Heads.

Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts

The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts is one of the State Library of Tasmania's heritage collections. It contains a collection of 18th and 19th century furniture, colonial paintings, silver and objets d'art, fine china and rare and antique books.

Richmond Gaol

Australia's oldest existing colonial gaol in original preservation offers the only surviving example of female solitary confinement cells in Tasmania and an extensive collection of convict relics.

Tasmania Fire Museum

This collection is currently being developed by a committee of volunteers who have been collecting any items related to the operations of the fire service and fire protection both of an historical and modern nature. Currently the museum is a collection only.

Channel Historical and Folk Museum

The Channel Historical and Folk Museum has displays of items, memorabilia and information relating to the history and lifestyle of the D'Entre casteaux channel area from Margate south to Gordon.

National Automobile Museum of Tasmania

Forest and Heritage Centre

The Forest and Heritage Centre tells the story of the timber industry in Geeveston with displays of old photographs, tools and equipment to explanations of the modern day timber industry accessed on computer terminals within the forest room.

W.L. Crowther Library

The W.L Crowther Library is one of the State Library of Tasmania's heritage collections.

Tasmanian Wool Centre

The Centre houses a sheep and wool exhibition which traces the evolution of the industry and includes a touch and feel display of different types and microns of wool. It also contains a History Museum, which highlights the development of Ross and the region over the past 180 years.

Eric Thomas Galley Museum

Created by Mr. Eric Thomas. The main feature of the Gallery Museum is its Photographic collection dating from 1890's. It shows people and places on the west coast of Tasmania, with an extensive display on the mount Lyell diaster, which claimed 42 lives.
