This former Courthouse built in 1914 holds a collection of small domestic and agricultural artefacts on display and features a War Memorial Room. Documents include family, school, church, district, shire, sports and railway histories as well as ndividual files. Family research for inquiries is undertaken, using local resources and index of papers. Minute books of local organisations are stored safely. Situated near the home of Dame Nellie Melba, the Museum provides the only permanent display of Melba memorabilia in Australia. Housed in the 1889 Shire Offices, the Museum also offers changing thematic exhibitions. The museum has recently undergone extensive renovations and restorations and offers a new program of exhibitions and activities. Rippon Lea is the last of Australia's great privately owned 19th century suburban estates to survive largely intact. Commissioned by Frederick Sargood in 1868, the house, designed by Joseph Reed is in the Lombardic Romanesque style. The extensive garden retains 14 of the original 45 acres, and features a lake, grotto, gardens, buildings and a magnificent fernery. Water Tower Museum is housed in an old four-storey, thirteen-metre water storage tower built in 1886 by the railways for the supply of steam engines. The Old Melbourne Gaol is a vivid and stark reminder of the 19th Century prison life. Only one cell block remains of the original complex, built approximately 150 years ago. The gaol opened in 1845 and closed in 1929, and was the site of 135 executions, including the infamous Ned Kelly. The Tilly Aston Heritage Collection is owned by Vision Australia Foundation, an organisation that has operated as a service provider for blind and vision impaired people since 1895.
