This family and local history Resource Centre has an extensive indexed collection relating to local people, places, events and topics along with family history files, birth and marriage certificates and photographs.Over 80,000 index cards listing information on local identities, businesses, towns etc. Approx. 1000 photographs of local people and places. Local church records, school registers, cemeteries, inquests.
The Museum is dedicated to conserving and displaying items relating to the local history of the Borough of Queenscliffe since 1838. The diverse collection reflects the many aspects of the development of Queenscliffe; sea pilot station, fishing village, military guardian of Port Phillip Bay and fashionable sea-side resort. Housed in an old ANA lodge the collection has proved useful to those studying local and family histories. A feature of the Centre are displays depicting the histories of the granite quarries and apple orchards of the area. Books on the local history are available for purchase.
Still operating today as part of the Mt Alexander Hospital, this Gothic-style brick building has featured prominently in Castlemaine's history since the gold rush and was formerly used as the Castlemaine Benevolent Asylum. Housed in the historic former Army Medical Corps Drill Hall, this major archive specialises in Victorian history and contains manuscripts, documents, photographs and some artefacts (a catalogue is available). The Society has a library of Victorian, local and family history.Approximately 23,500 manuscripts plus 11000 books, 6000 photographs, 800 postcards and 600 map, and some artefacts.

Water Tower Museum is housed in an old four-storey, thirteen-metre water storage tower built in 1886 by the railways for the supply of steam engines. The building was originally built as a coach house/blacksmith shop, in 1880, from local field limestone. It served a variety of commercial purposes until its conversion to a museum in 1993. The Kyneton Museum collection is housed in a group of buildings, the most substantial of which was built in 1856 from local bluestone for the infant Bank of New South Wales. The branch was opened to service miners of the region's goldfields. Original outbuildings include kitchens, celler and stables, and these have been augmented by various outbuildings including an original settlers cottage which was relocated here in 1970. The Museum is a branch of the Western Australian Museum. In 1863 the first school between Perth and Freemantle was built on Freshwater Bay. This building now forms the core of the museum site, which opened in 1975. Exhibits are changed periodically and address issues related to the loacl history of Claremont. The museum collects and preserves material culture associated with the district of Claremont, including oral histories and photographs. We have a small Museum which embraces a costume collection of c 2,000 pieces, an art collection of c 200 pieces, a huge photograph collection and a library. The Museum is housed in the Old Police Station, Prison and Courthouse complex. The building was erected in 1870, with extensions being completed in 1873. The original building comprised a court room, police station, cell block and living quarters, and was built from locally-quarried limestone; the walls are some 450mm thick, constructed in the coarse random rubble style. The roof, which was originally wooden shingle, has been replaced by corrugated iron. A sample of the original shingles is displayed in the exhibition.

The building is the first permanent Courthouse in the Eastern Goldfields. It is part of the block of government buildings which is comprised of the Courthouse, Mining Registrar Offices and residences, Post Office and Residences. Construction commenced in 1892. The foundations are of local stone cemented together with mud. The walls are of locally made mud bricks.
